Finally getting around to updating the site...

It’s really fun to use Rapidweaver - I can make the smallest changes and instantly see results as well post them. I love discovering all the cool plug-ins that others have written for RW...

Apple's new toys

Last week at Apple’s WWDC (World Wide Developer Conference), the company announced details of the new iPhone operating system (3.0), new iPhone hardware and a refresh/reorganization of the laptop line.
iPhone 3.0 is going to bring lots of things that people have been clamoring for; cut & paste, MMS (when ATT gets around to it), video - along with the software update will be new hardware. The new iPhone 3GS will sport a 3 megapixel camera along with a few other internal upgrades...you won’t be able to tell the difference by looking at them though, the form factor hasn’t changed (not so great for case makers since no one has to upgrade their case of choice).
I don’t mind, I really like my current In Case sleeve.
Snow Leopard was detailed (as well as Snow Leopard Server) - it’s an upgrade to the current operating system that has much improved the internal workings of the Mac OS but most people won’t really see much of a difference.

The laptop line was changed a bit - now there are 13” MacBook Pro’s! Only one MacBook left (the white plastic). The line was upgraded to internal, non-removable, batteries with 40% longer life. Not necessary for an immediate upgrade but they sure do look nice!

I will be upgrading my iPhone 3G to a 3GS as soon as ATT let’s me at the fully subsidized price ($299 for 32GB) around July 12.

In other news I’m playing with the iPhone SDK (I joined the developer to have access) allowing me to build an iPhone app - I’m open to any ideas!

Olivia's visit

My cousin (she’s actually my cousin’s daughter, so...second cousin?) came to visit for a week - what fun! We toured a bit of Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Santa Monica. Took a road trip to Joshua Tree, climbed up Mt. Lee to get as close as we legally could to the Hollywood sign - all in all, had a great time!

Another new Kindle is here, the DX

KindleDX
It’s bigger - to appeal to those looking to read newspapers on the Kindle and to use it for reading textbooks. I was initially very annoyed at this new, bigger model being offered so soon after the Kindle 2. I have come to realize a couple things; first, not sure when exactly it will be shipping, I much prefer my smaller sized Kindle 2 since I’m primarily reading books. So far, it’s working really well for me. They also changed a few button locations which I don’t like so all in all, I’m fine with passing on this one. I will happily upgrade when (hopefully more than a year from now) they might offer the Kindle 2 in color. Yeah, that would be cool and worth the upgrade.

New Kindle 2 is here!

In the last few years I’ve shifted from traditional paper books to audiobooks (love Audible!) and rarely looked back. Once in while I will buy an actual book book...which I never finish. Seems the only place my book lives is next to my bed. They are generally too bulky to take with me. When Amazon released the first Kindle, I was put off by the price and well...it just didn’t feel good in my hand. I’m used to my technology being designed by Jonathan Ives...anything less is just...well...less.
Hello Kindle 2. This redesign comes close to being as elegant as an Apple product! I’m about to put one of the hundred or so Apple stickers I have on the sleek metal back.DSC_3431
A full review is coming soon...I received the Kindle yesterday and really love this! I’m already devouring my first book (easy on the eyes) and bugging Amazon to make more Kindle-ready books available.
